HISTORY OF THE BLAZERS!

OVER 24 YRS IN EXISTENCE

The Berwyn Blazers’ organization was founded by Mr. Sal Gambina in the fall of 1984. Players were recruited from Berwyn and outlying communities to create a team that would play competitive outdoor soccer. Over the years, the dream of creating a solid soccer organization has become a reality. The club has grown from a single U-14 team to 12 teams in age levels U-8 through U-19 for the fall of 2007. In the fall of 2004 the Berwyn Blazers added a U-8 boys’ teams for the first time in it's history! They also added one all girls’ soccer team to the rosters. Making sure girl's soccer returns to the Berwyn Blazers Soccer Club. In the Fall of 2008 the Blazers are looking forward to adding more girls teams.

The organization will continue to grow as long as there are qualified coaches, parents who are willing to volunteer some of their time and there are children who have the desire to play soccer.

The Berwyn Blazers is a competitive soccer program supported by the Berwyn Blazers Parent Soccer Association (BBPSA), working in conjunction with the Berwyn Recreation Department. The BBPSA is a Not-for Profit Organization. The Berwyn Blazers primary goal is the development of a well-rounded soccer player who enjoys the game of soccer and the progressive development of players that will be prepared for soccer at the High School and Collegiate levels. Players’ development is accomplished by IYSA certified coaches who volunteer their time and enjoy working with youngsters while watching the skills of each individual player grow.

The Boys’ Blazer Teams compete in the Northern Illinois Soccer League (NISL). The Girls’ Blazer teams competes in the Illinois Women’s Soccer League (IWSL).

Blazer teams will participate in tournaments throughout the year. Tournaments are normally held in the weekends. Blazer teams will travel mostly to neighboring states like Wisconsin, Iowa and Indiana. Although, some Blazer teams have been known to go compete as far as Minnesota, Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania, participating in well known soccer Tournaments in those states.

The current 2007-2008 BBPSA board is comprised:

President – Pete Garcia
Vice-President – Karen Caldwell
Secretary - Nancy Kucinski
Treasurer – Jim Irmis

The BBPSA meets every first Friday of the month at the Berwyn Recreation Department. All Blazer's parents are welcome to attend.
